French side Lyon wants to re-sign defender Samuel Umtiti after his tough spell at Barcelona.
Umtiti is one of the players who are being considered surplus to requirements at Camp Nou and with no game time guaranteed ahead of the new season, the defender is likely to return to France.
According to Sport, Lyon is working on a plan to bring the center back to France as they believe they could bring the player back to his pre-2018 form. However, they cannot afford his transfer fee or his wage, with both being considered too high for the Ligue 1 club.
The reports suggest that Umtiti will be brought back on a loan deal in which they would cover approximately 50% of his wage but it remains to be seen whether Barça would agree to this deal from a financial or sporting perspective, and whether the center-back would consider a return to his former club.
Barca has already signed Eric Garcia from Manchester City and it is believed that he will be partnering Gerard Pique at the heart of Barca's defense next season something that puts Umtiti's position in jeopardy.
Lack of game time and injuries saw Umtiti dropped from the France Euro 2020 squad and another spell out might see him miss the 2022 World Cup.
