Everton's search for a defender has seen them get linked with a move for Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij.
Sportwitness, reports that the Toffees have already informed the player's agent Mino Raiola that they are keen on a summer transfer with the club said to have an excellent relationship with the Italian agent.
The reports indicate that both parties have opened initial discussions regarding a potential move despite reports that Italian champions Inter Milan were unwilling to sell the player this summer.
Their financial situation however could tempt them into selling the experienced center-back should a lucrative offer come in with the side having already parted ways with right back Hachraf Hakimi who moved to PSG in order to balance their books.
De Vrij was a key player for Inter Milan last season and he helped them win the Scudetto after eleven years and would want to move to the Premier League for the new experience.
Everton wants a European qualification something that Rafa Benitez believes they can achieve with a steady defense. There have been reports that a new defender would come in for Yerry Mina who has struggled with injuries in recent seasons.
Benitez wants to bring in a more reliable defender before the transfer window shuts and believes De Vrij could form a quality partnership alongside Ben Godfrey.
