Varane: Joining Man United was my destiny

Manchester United's defender Raphael Varane has said what many Red Devils fans will rather enjoy after such a great season start.

According to Varane, his move to the club in August was a fulfillment of a plan that had first formed over 10 years ago when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge at Old Trafford.

Varane has revealed that Sir Alex once went over to France to watch the then 18-year-old playing his football in Ligue 1 before the move to Real Madrid.

"It was a special moment for me and my family," Varane said.

"It's amazing to meet a person like him [Alex Ferguson] at 18. You know, after that, it's your destiny. Ten years in Madrid and now I'm here," Varane said via AS.

While moving to England is a task on itself, the former Los Blancos says the bigger objective is to inspire the Red Devils towards the dominant club it was in the past.

"This is a new challenge for me. A different competition, a different mentality, a different atmosphere. It's all new for me but I've enjoyed every day so far.

"It's a big challenge to get Manchester United back to the top but I feel people want to win, people want to do great things with this club, and that's a big motivation for me," the Frenchman concluded.

Meanwhile, Varane is expected to sit out United's EFL Cup meeting against West Ham midweek.
