Ward-Prowse admits disappointment after England Euro snub

Southampton captain James Ward Prowse has expressed his displeasure for being snubbed by the England national team coach Gareth Southgate for Euro 2020.

Prowse was in the initial 33-man group and was sure that he would make the final team only for Southgate to leave him behind for other options.

Southgate was to prove he made the right call as The Three Lions went all the way to the final where they lost to Italy but according to the Saint' captain, watching the game from home was harder.

"It was difficult to take and of course watching from home was even harder. But it's football. I gave myself every chance to be in that squad. It wasn't meant to be but I was proud to watch it as an England fan and an England player who helped them prepare for the tournament," the midfielder said in an interview with the Daily Echo.

After the summer setback, Prowse returned to his club Southampton but looked to have turned his attention elsewhere when reports emerged that he wanted to move to Aston Villa.

While Villa made a move for the player following the imminent departure of Jack Grealish to Manchester City, the Saints rejected any approaches from their captain with the player proceeding to pen a new long-term contract to stay at St Mary's.
