The current Nigerian team lacks creativity in the midfield, says former Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba.
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has played Alex Iwobi as the creative number ten and the Everton man was named the man of the match against Liberia last month. Despite the performance, Ikpeba insisted the team still lacks creativity in the middle of the park and the Everton man can only thrive against African oppositions.
According to Ikpeba, Nigeria lacks a world-class creative midfielder, adding Iwobi isn't the right player to be used as number ten.
"We lack that creativity in the midfield. We don’t have that player such as Austin Okocha and Wilson Oruma in the midfield that can create chances for our strikers," he said.
"In Africa, it's fine but playing at the world stages, we need someone that is creative. Alex Iwobi can’t do the job for us at the moment," he added.
Iwobi is out of Nigeria's upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic with an injury.
