Leonardo, the sporting director of French giants Paris Saint-Germain, is optimistic that Kylian Mbappe will sign a new contract at the Parc des Princes.
Mbappe is expected to sign a free transfer to Real Madrid in 2022, but Leonardo has refused to give up hope and continues to speak up about the possibility of a contract extension.
Speaking to Festival dello Sport, the 51-year-old said: "Our idea is to extend Kylian Mbappe's contract. Nothing has changed in our plans. Kylian is a jewel, he is incredibly perfect for PSG... then we've Kylian, Leo [Messi], Ney. We've never planned PSG future without Mbappe."
Leonardo also suggested that Madrid should be "punished" for their approach to a possible deal for Mbappe, adding: "From Madrid they deny, but I think Real Madrid have been doing a job to buy Mbappé [as a free agent] for a long time. For two years they have been speaking publicly about Mbappé. This must be punished."
Mbappe has four goals and five assists in 11 games across all competitions this season, and he is presently preparing for France's Nations League final against Spain later today.
