FC Barcelona star Sergio Aguero has revealed an insider’s story of how Lionel Messi dealt with the forced dramatic exit from the Catalan giants.
As widely reported to shock the global football community, La Liga’s financial rules restrained the club from offering Lionel Messi a new contract.
Before the devastating news was confirmed, Aguero had meanwhile joined Barca with the expectation to play his football alongside Messi - but the dream was not to be as Messi was forced to leave and join PSG.
"It was a time of shock for him. He felt terrible. When I found out, I couldn't believe it," he told El Pais.
"That Saturday I went to see him at his house. And, because of my personality, since I saw him pretty down, I tried make him forget what had happened.
"I could see that he was unable to concentrate and I was trying to distract him. I was telling him about my Esports team. And the things we were doing about it."
"I arrived with the expectation of playing with Leo and that a good team would be put together, which was what the club tried to do," he added.
"When they called me I thought: 'I don't care what they pay me. I will be happy and I'm going to help the team as much as possible,” Aguero concluded.
Coming up next for Barca is UEFA Champions League action against Dinamo Kyiv.
