Kylian Mbappe has claimed his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Lionel Messi would deserve the Ballon d O'r Award.
A debate has been aging on to who deserves this year's accolade with the Argentine one of the least favorites to win the award going by the performance of players like Mohammed Salah and Chelsea midfielder Jorgino.
Messi being on for what would have been a record eighth hat-trick in the Champions League and scoring a penalty earlier in their 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig on Tuesday, handed a spot-kick in the 94th minute to Mbappe who missed.
Mabpe had given Messi a penalty earlier in the game and thinks that the gesture shown by the player in thedying minutes puts him above most players.
"Why did I give the penalty to Messi? That’s what team-mates do," Mbappe explained while speaking to RMC Sport via the Mirror.
"He's the best player in the world. He let me take the second penalty. Unfortunately, I missed it. It's a privilege to play with him and it would be fully deserved if he won the Ballon d’Or."
In the game, Mauricio Pochettino 's side took the lead through Mbappe in the ninth minute but found themselves behind in the second half after goals from Andre Silva and Nordi Mukiele. Messi then struck twice inside seven minutes to turn things around.
