Failing to manage wealth as a professional footballer seemed like an embarrassment that only haunted players of yesteryear, unfortunately, it has affected today's generation.
Futaa has compiled a list of modern footballers who once enjoyed high luxury before somehow ending up with peanuts soon after retiring from the game.
The group includes some of the greatest players of all time like the late Diego Maradona and the flamboyant Ronaldinho of Brazil and Barcelona fame.
Not to speak ill of the dead, but it was no secret that Maradona fell victim to the dark forces of alcohol and drug abuses, particularly the expensive habit that is cocaine. The icon reportedly died with just £75,000 to his name.
Ronaldinho, who similarly enjoyed a night of dance and booze for days on end, reportedly had just £5 in his account after an investigation into his bank status in 2018.
As far as African footballers, former Sunderland and Ghana Black Stars forward Asamoah Gyan became broke after once becoming the highest-paid African player in the world when he signed for Chinese Super League side SIPG back in 2015.
Gyan reportedly got paid an astronomical £227 000 per week, before he later claimed to have just £600 in his bank account in 2018.
