David Moyes backs Bowen for England call up

West Ham manager David Moyes has backed striker Jarrod Bowen to be called to the England national team setup by manager Gareth Southgate.

Bowen who bagged a brace on Wednesday night as the Hammers brushed aside Norwich City has the most goal contributions in the entire Premier League and according to Moyes, it was time Southgate considered him for his team.

“I think you’re hoping the players when they come from the Championship they can develop and get used to the Premier League. I think near enough from the start Jarrod has done really well. I think he’s taking to it really well because he can play wide, through the middle and score goals," Moyes said after the Norwich game.

“He is a wide player who not just puts crosses in or assists, now the biggest thing is he has added assists but he is back on a bit of goal form, which we needed. I have to say I think Jarrod is improving, I did not think he played well in the first half tonight but I thought he made a big difference in the second half.

“When you look at the competition (in the England squad), we mentioned Rashford, Sterling, Grealish, Sancho. There are probably more as well, they are just the ones off the top of my head.

“It is a decision for Gareth. But I think at the moment Jarrod Bowen is probably is getting closer to making people say ‘we are going to have to look to see what he can do."

With the World Cup coming up next for England, Bowen will hope that he continues to shine with his club starting with Leeds United this weekend.
