Just who doesn’t adore Luka Modric? The Real Madrid star has now declared who shall be the heir to his throne as the king in the Croatia national side.
Now at the age of 36, the dynamic central midfielder is expected to captain the east European nation at the FIFA World Cup later this year.
The former Tottenham Hotspur star was meanwhile asked who he believes will be the next big leader in the Croatia team. According to Modric, Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic is that man.
“I think Mateo Kovacic could be my heir, at least he is the player with the most talent,” he told Marca, cited by the Mail.
“He has played at important clubs such as Inter and Real Madrid. He is at Chelsea now and is doing really well,” Modric added.
“He is one of the possible successors. Surely he can lead Croatia in the future.”
Meanwhile, Kovacic will be in action as the Blues travel within London to battle Crystal Palace this weekend.
