Ashantigold SC have been demoted to the Division Two League after they were found guilty of match manipulation.
It will be recalled that suspicions were raised following a high-scoring game between Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies in the 2020/21 league season. The club was found guilty by a disciplinary committee headed by chairman Osei Kwadwo Adow.
"Ashantigold SC will be demoted to Division Two League after being found guilty of match manipulation in their fixture against Inter Allies FC," a statement from the Ghana FA on Monday.
"The decision takes effect from the 2022-23 league season. Officials of the club and players, who participated in the above-mentioned match have also been sanctioned by the disciplinary committee."
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Ashanti Gold SC, Dr Kwaku Frimpong, has been slapped with a 10-year ban from all football-related activities over his involvement in betting and match manipulation.
