Following the departure of Cesc Fabregas to AS Monaco, Chelsea are edging closer to sign Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder Leandro Paredes after reports indicate that they have agreed terms with the player.
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri had previously admitted that they will sign a replacement should Cesc Fabregas leave, “If Cesc will go, of course, we need a replacement. Now, with the midfielders we are in trouble, I think. Without Cesc we have only five, so we are in trouble. We need a replacement.”
Paredes caused a mini social media storm on Saturday when he retweeted a video that read 'Welcome to Chelsea' on his Twitter account. According to Mirror, Paredes, 24, has already agreed on personal terms with Chelsea who have firmed up their interest with a £27m offer. Paredes scored 15 goals and set up 10 more in 61 appearances for Zenit, who he joined in 2017 from Roma for an initial £21m.
