Makerere return from Suspension as University league expands to Arua, Kabale

Makerere University has returned to the University Football league after completing their one-year suspension.

The university was suspended in October 2017 after their fans were found guilty of causing chaos before a league fixture against Busitema University.

The academic giants will join three new entrants, Muni University (Arua), Kabale University and International University of East Africa (IUEA) who have been incorporated as the league expands to 19 teams.

The round one stage will involve a pre-groups home and away qualifier. Because there are seven teams in the preliminary round, IUEA was given a bye.

The other three will face the bottom teams from last years edition to find which team will make it to the group stages.

Draws

Muni University from Arua will face Nothern Uganda’s Gulu University, Makerere will battle it out with Kampala International as Kabale take on Nkumba University.

Kyambogo University are the defending champions after beating Kampala University in last year’s final.
