Uganda Police FC announce five additional signings

Uganda Premier League club Police have officially announced five additional signings days after the closing of the transfer window.

Key among the new players that were shown to the media at the club’s headquarters in Naguru was former Kaizer Chiefs defender Ivan Bukenya.

Bukenya joins the Cops from Swedish third tier side, Linkoping FC for whom he has been playing since early last year. He is expected to feature for the Cops until the end of the season.

At the press conference, Police FC chairperson Asan Kasingye told the media that the club’s aim is to compete for the league title.

“The purpose of this recruitment is to improve the team’s performance as we should be competing for the title not just to participate as we have been in the league for the last three decades, said Kasingye.

“However, we are hoping to improve on our staff, improve on our playground and work on players’ remuneration as we expect the players to deliver.

The other new players include defender Edgar Sharp Bwogi who last season featured at Express FC, Kasozi Kennedy from Vipers (loan), Alfred Oginyera and Kiryowa Gerard who both join from Farmers FC in the regional league.

Kiryowa and Bwogi signed one-year deals each while goalkeeper Oginyera was handed two-year contract and will serve with Davis Mutebi who has featured in all of Police’s first 16 games in the current 2018/19 season.

Police managed a 2-0 win against Express on Monday, February 4 at Wankulukuku in their 17th League game of the season.

They are currently tenth on the Uganda Premier League standings with 21 points so far.
