Uganda Cup: Blunt Tooro United crash out to Wakiso on penalties
Tooro United bumbled out of Uganda Cup after failing to replicate their round of 32 heroics against KCCA when they faced Wakiso Giants in Jinja.
The Fort Portal outfit stood the test and eliminated holders KCCA 4-1 in shootouts in the previous round but failed to replicate the same in another nerve-shredding kicks on Friday.
Captain Mike Kawooya broke the york with an expertly taken shot for the premier league side but Emmanuel Kiweewa ably matched to make it 1-1.
Jamil Kaliisa, who had just been brought with two minutes remaining to the lotteries, dramatically saw his stinging effort bounce off Ivan Mutumba's stretched arm, ricocheted on the crossbar and back to the keeper.
At first sight, it seemed like the keeper had saved but the second official confirmed that the ball had crossed the line and awarded a goal. Tooro's lucky charm had been exhausted.
Isa Mubiru stabbed his shot directly into the falling keeper as George Byamukama worsened the situation with a high ball that rattled the crossbar.
Isaac Ntege and James Kasibante made no mistake in Wakiso's second and third leaving room for Hassan Waswa to detonate the purple dynamites in the stands with his powerful low drive.
Both sides were unconvincing in the first half fluffing several half chances. Tooro had better opportunities in the second. Yaya Mahad saw his long range missile rattle the crossbar before Ivan Mutumba swept away another close attempt.
The Purple Sharks had, what looked like, a genuine penalty waved on but should work on their aerial abilities as they wasted tonnes of freekicks that flew wasted from both sides.
