Real Madrid have missed a golden opportunity to go second on the La Liga table after Girona stunned them 1-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos had to finish the match with ten men after skipper Sergio Ramos was sent off in the dying moments of the game after a second booking. He was first booked for handling the ball inside his own area and that gave the visitors a glorious opportunity to level matters.

Striker Cristhian Stuani converted a penalty with a right footed shot to the centre of the goal to level the score in the 65th minute. Casimiro's header from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner that was assisted by Toni Kroos with a cross following a corner opened the score in the 25th minute.

Portu hit the crossbar for the visitors with a powerful strike before he netted the winner with a diving header after Anthony Lozano's shot had been parried in the 75th minute. Barcelona leads the pack with 54 points following their 1-0 win over Rayo Valladolid and Atletico Madrid are second on 47 points after winning their respective match against Rayo Vallecano with a similar margin to Barca's. Madrid are third with 45 points.
