Uganda Premier League U-turn for Alex Isabyire?

Alex Isabirye has reportedly departed from FUFA Big League club Kyetume FC for top tier side Nyamityobora.

The former Uganda Cranes international resigned his job at Kyetume moments after guiding them to the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarter-finals, following a 1-0 away win over Kitara at Kigaya on Sunday, February 17.

Nyamityobora had recently lost head coach Asaph Mwebaze but found hope in naming Isabirye as the replacement.

Isabirye, though, comes in the capacity of technical director.

"We announce the arrival of Alex Isabirye as technical director. He signed a three-year employment contract," the statement from the club said.

However, restoring the sanity in the dressing room will be Isabirye’s primary task, something that the head coach has been tipped to be capable of.

He is expected to work alongside Juma Ssekiziyivu who has been the interim trainer since Mwebaze’s untimely departure.

Isabirye faces a stern test, given the worrying form of the Abanyakare, having managed just three wins in 19 matches with 3 draws and 13 losses registered.

Isabirye returns to a club that he once served in the FUFA Big League before he left prematurely for Tooro United.

To earn the job, Isabirye beat off stiff competition from Muhammed Kisekka (formerly at Paidha Black Angels), Jackson Mayanja and Kefa Kisala.

"I understand the dynamics of the modern game. It has been a hard decision to leave Kyetume but I am ready for fresh challenges every day. I am ready to serve Nyamityobora and happy to return to a club I call home," Isabirye said.

The immediate task at hand is the away game against Paidha Black Angels on Thursday, February 21 at the Bar Okoro Stadium in Zombo.
