Barcelona moved an inch closer to clinching the LaLiga title following their 2-0 win over Deportivo Alaves with goals courtesy of Luis Suarez and Carlos Alena in a match staged at the Mendizorroza Stadium on Tuesday 23rd April.

Alaves came into the clash in a five-game winless streak while Barcelona arrived in contrasting fortunes having won all but one of their last five matches and could seal the league if results elsewhere went their way. It didn't take Barcelona long before they could flex their muscles as they went close in the fifth minute when Coutinho released Suarez but with the keeper to beat Pacheco saved the Uruguayan's effort.

After a goalless first half, Barcelona took the lead in the 52nd minute when Sergi Roberto played a one-two on his way in from the right flank before feeding a pass into the box. Suarez cleverly dummied it to let it run through to Alena, who made no mistake as he tucked in his finish into the bottom corner.

Barcelona doubled their lead at the stroke of the hour mark from the penalty spot after Tomás Pina was judged to have handled the ball in the box. After a VAR check, the referee finally awarded the penalty with Luis Suarez stepping up to take the penalty and squeezed the ball past Fernando Pacheco.
