Messi, Suarez and Pique hold secret meeting over Valverde's future
The deed has been done, but the future of manager Ernesto Valverde is the talking point in Barcelona.
Three of the most important players at Barcelona have held secret talks regarding the club’s state after their Champions League exit on Tuesday night.
Ernesto Valverde’s hopes of lifting the UEFA Champions League as the Barcelona manager came crippling down for a second season on the bounce in similar fashion like the first. The Catalans threw away a three goal lead from the first leg contested at their home ground only to be mauled in the second leg.
His man management and tactics have been heavily criticized of late. Ernesto Valverde’s favouritism of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic has hampered the chances of several players at Catalonia and the better preferred players’ fatigue starts to show at the business end of the campaign- similar to last year.
Upon hearing the thoughts of their manager, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique- who are considered to be the most senior players of the current Barca side held a meeting and decided to prevent Valverde’s departure, according to Diario GOL. But that must only happen provided that the Catalans win the Copa del Rey.
The league is done and dusted for the Blaugrana, who wrapped up success a few weeks ago and now a date with Valencia awaits them in the Benito Villamarin at Seville.
The match to be contested on the 25th of May will be a do or die game for Valverde, and should Barcelona lose that, not even Messi can prevent Barcelona’s board from swinging the axe on their manager.
