OFFICIAL: Atletico Madrid snap up Llorente
Atletico Madrid have signed Marcos Llorente from rivals Real Madrid, with the young midfielder expected to make the switch only subject to passing his medical.
Llorente, 24, is expected to sign a five-year contract, after failing to nail a starting berth at the Spanish giants.
"Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marcos Llorente to our club, pending the player passing the relevant medical examination," an Atletico Madrid statement read.
"It is expected that after performing this medical examination, the midfielder will sign a contract that will commit him to our club for the next five seasons," the statement further read.
The Spanish found competition at the club stiff, with the likes of Luca Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemeiro all ahead of him in the pecking order, and rightfully so because of their experience.
He made a paltry five starts last season under manager Zinedine Zidane for the club he joined at 14, having made his debut in 2015 before being shipped out to Alaves on loan the following day.
"I grew up and started dreaming about playing at Real Madrid. I learned and put everything aside to do it and my dream was fulfilled," he said after making the move.
His move might trigger another transfer, with Rodrigo Hernandez set to join Manchester City.
