Egypt were saved by the crossbar as Congo were denied an equalizer in the 40th minute of play. A nice build-up saw the ball delivered inside the penalty area where Merveille Bokadi rose to divert the ball to Jonathan Bolingi, whose header saw Mohamed El-Shenawy beaten but the ball struck the post.
A counter-attack developed after high press from DR Congo which saw Mahmoud Trezeguet look for Mohamed Salah with a searching pass on the right wing. The Liverpool man stormed inside Congo’s penalty area, he twisted and turned before smashing the ball into the near post to give Egypt a commanding lead.
The win means Egypt becomes the second team to qualify for the knock out stages after Nigeria advanced to the round of 16 with a 1-0 win over Guinea. With one match to go, the Pharaoh's are currently on top of Group A with 6 points while Uganda are second with 4 points.
