West Ham have made a move for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Sebastien Haller, who is rated at £40million.
The Premier League side have reportedly made contact with the German club, after missing out Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez, who signed for Valencia on Sunday evening.
The 25-year-old is among Europe's wanted strikers and proved once again that he can play at the very top with his 20 goals in 41 games for Frankfurt last season.
The Hammers are in the market for a new striker, after selling Marko Arnautovic to Shanghai SIPG for £22.5million and losing out in the race to sign Gomez.
The club also lost Lucas Perez and having released Andy Carrol, coach Manuel Pellegrini will only have Javier Hernandez and Jordan Hugill as the two senior strikers.
The club is said to be considering letting Hugill go out on loan to a championship side, and must bring in an experienced striker.
West Ham are currently in China ready for the Premier League Asia Trophy, where they are due to face Manchester City.
The Premier League champions have however not traveled to the Asian nation after traveling hitches led to the rescheduling of their flight.
