Zambia Women national team has to reach the final as their target for this years COSAFA Women's Championship.
Copper Queens Assistant coach Beauty Mwamba revealed that the team was aiming at doing better than last year when they came out fourth. In 2018 Zambia lost to guest team Cameroon in the semifinals before losing the bronze medal match to another guest team, Uganda.
"We need to do better than we did last year and if we can reach the final that will be okay," She said.
Mwamba believes the players are ready for the huge task that lies ahead of them. She also explained the absence of European based trio of Barbara Banda, Misozi Zulu, and Rachel Kundananji.
"We reported for camp on Saturday and we started training on Sunday and so far so good. We have 26 players in camp. We have replaced those will not be with us like Barbara Banda, Rachel Kundananji and Misozi Zulu. We have summoned Amira from Eagles, Thandiwe Nkhata from Nkwazi and a goalkeeper from national Assembly so we have four goalkeepers and 22 in field players but we have to go with 20 players to the tournament, So far so good. all the players are putting in the very best," She said.
" Cosafa is not on the FIFA calendar so they can not be released by their teams to come and play as they are starting their pre-season training so we have to depend on the players that we have. They will deliver we believe in them."
"They are ready, they are training hard so we believe that they will be able to perform as expected."
The Copper Queens were drawn in group B alongside Namibia, Mauritius, and Botswana. The 2019 COSAFA Women’s Championship that will be staged in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality from July 31-August 11.
