After AFCON 2019, Super Eagles move up 12 places in latest FIFA ranking

Nigeria's Super Eagles have moved 12 places up in the latest FIFA World Ranking released on Thursday and are now 33rd best team in the world.

Nigeria garnered 1, 481 points as against 1, 433 it had in June to place 45th.

The Super Eagles finished 3rd at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after beating Tunisia 1-0 in the losers' final.

Senegal is now the number one team in Africa despite losing the AFCON 2019 final to Algeria. The North African nation occupy a distant 4th spot in Africa but are the biggest mover, up 28 places to claim the 40th place globally.

AFCON surprise quarter-finalists, Madagascar (96th, up 12) and Benin (82nd, up 6) saw their continental performances rewarded with a ranking rise.

On the global scene, Belgium retained the number one spot, while Copa America champions, Brazil, moved one step higher to claim the second place.

France, England, Uruguay, Portugal, Croatia, Colombia, Spain and Argentina complete the top ten team in the world.
