OFFICIAL: Former Arsenal defender Vermaelen joins Vissel Kobe 

Former Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has joined Japanese side Vissel Kobe. 

Vermaelen’s contract with Barcelona ended on June 30th after staying with the Spanish giants for four seasons where he won nine titles. The Belgian is set to link up with former Barcelona players Andres Iniesta, David Villa, and Sergi Samper. The 33-year-old joins the team against whom FC Barcelona will play their second pre-season friendly in the city of Kobe this Saturday.

The ex-Arsenal captain joined Barcelona in the summer of 2014 where he made a total of 53 appearances netting one goal before signing for AS Roma on loan in the 2016/17 season. 

Titles 

Vermaelen won a Champions League, three Copas del Rey, and a Club World Cup.
