Sporting manager head coach Marcel Keizer has given Manchester United hope in their pursuit of Bruno Fernandes after he admitted he is not sure if the Portugues will be at the club next season.
Fernandes is one of United's key targets this summer, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer builds a team that can challenge in the Premier League and Europe as well.
Speaking after their friendly match on Sunday, Keizer could not confirm whether or not they will keep one of their prized assets, and instead chose to be democratic about it.
"We'll see if we can keep our players and then we'll see what we do,” he told reporters after the game.
"I hope he [Fernandes] stays, of course, like everyone else at Sporting, but we don't know."
United have shown their willingness to sign young players, and have brought in Daniel James from Swansea and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.
They continue to be linked with other key targets especially in midfield, with Lazio's Sergej Milinković-Savić another option.
These moves are however hinged on Paul Pogba's move or lack of it, with the Frenchman linked with Real Madrid and Juventus.
