Former Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter isn’t happy with Jomo Sono’s claims of being a weak character for the national side.
Legend Sono made a rare media appearance earlier this week and did not do so without ruffling Baxter’s feathers.
Asked to point out what he believes are the issues facing SAFA and Bafana as the wait for a new coach continues, Sono said the national team just do not need another coach like Baxter.
“To be honest‚ I never watch Bafana‚" Sono said.
"Because‚ in my own opinion‚ we need a coach who will select the players not by what he is told‚ and by whom he is told.”
“You need a ‘not-a-coach’. You need a strong person. Because the problem is not the coach. The problem is the agent. ‘Play my player – he must get a cap and then we can sell him’. That’s what is happening in football now,” Sono added.
The above comments did quickly reach Baxter and the Briton responded with fiery annoyance.
“He’s talking nonsense. The facts don’t support what he’s saying. Why don’t people just move on?” Baxter said via Times Live.
“I can tell him that if there is one coach over the last 20 years who has not done what he says‚ it’s me,” concluded the 65-year-old coach.
