Harambee Starlets step up preps ahead of Malawi test

Kenya ladies’ national team Harambee Starlets has intensified training ahead of their 2020 Olympics Qualifier against Malawi, in Lilongwe next week.

The team has been camping for two weeks and had a friendly clash with Ethiopia last weekend where they registered a 3-2 win in a morale-boosting outing, they needed ahead of the two-legged tie.

And speaking after their Friday session, head coach David Ouma who admitted that they were short defensively said it is an area they have been working on in their sessions.

Vulnerable in Defence

“We were quite vulnerable in defense in our friendly match against Ethiopia and this is what we have been working on in training. I am confident we will be stronger at the back and that way; we can have possibilities of even getting a winner,” Ouma told FKF’s website.

The first leg against Malawi is set to be played on Wednesday 28 August with the team scheduled to jet out to Malawi on Sunday 25 August; the second leg slated for September 1 at the MISC Kasarani.

After getting a bye in the first round Kenya will hope they go past Malawi with a date against either Ghana or Gabon waiting in the third round.
