2020 Olympics qualifiers: Algeria coach bows with pride

Coach of Algeria women's national team, Radia Fertoul, is proud of his girls despite losing out on the chance of making it to the 2020 Olympics.

Nigeria beat Algeria 3-0 on aggregate to qualify for the third round of qualifiers for the women's football event at the 2020 Olympics.

After Tuesday's second leg 1-0 defeat to host Nigeria at the Agege Stadium in Lagos, Fertoul said mistake by his team gave Nigeria the slim victory, but the girls gave a good fight against a more experienced side.

“In the first half we were able to compete with them (Falcons) despite having lot of star players in their team,” Fertoul said.

“Unfortunately, we gave them that goal following a mistake. But I am happy with my girls because we had lots of chances and we could have scored.

"We are proud of what we did because we competed with a team that went to the World Cup and we were able to contain them and make them suffer,” he said.

The Algerians were the better of the two teams in the first 45 minutes with their quick passing style and pace, causing problems for coach Thomas Dennerby’s side.

However, a mistake from the team and Oshoala’s brilliance ended their hopes of going through.
