πŸ“ Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona: How we rated the players

These two attack-minded sided had to settle for a goalless draw at Signal Iduna Park but it was an intriguing battle where Marc-André ter Stegen shone in Barcelona's goal.

How did we rate the players?

🇩🇪 Borussia Dortmund

Roman Bürki 6

Untroubled for most of the evening but did what he needed to do well in Dortmund’s goal

Achraf Hakimi 7

Got forward to good effect and combined well with Sancho to give Jordi Alba a difficult evening before the Barcelona left-back went off injured

Manuel Akanji 6.5

Not unduly troubled, calm and composed, did his job well alongside Hummels in the heart of defence

Mats Hummels 8

Outstanding defender who reads the game well, anticipates danger and breaks down opposition attacks

Raphaël Guerreiro 6

The Portuguese left-back was a good outlet on Dortmund’s left side

Thomas Delaney 6

An early booking inhibited him but he kept things simple in the centre of the park alongside his more expressive midfield partner Axel Witsel

Axel Witsel 7.5

Masterful midfield display from the Belgian who outshone Frenkie de Jong in the centre of the park both on and off the ball

Jadon Sancho 7

There were moments of brilliance and bursts down the right flank from the teenage Englishman but he struggled to produce the final product and missed a decent chance by firing well over

Marco Reus 6

A frustrating night for the Dortmund superstar who missed a penalty and went close to scoring numerous times, although he worked hard to support Alcacer

Thorgan Hazard 6

Not the Belgian's best night, but he did create one good chance for Reus

Paco Alcácer 6.5

Showed some nice touches in the build-up and worked hard for the team against his old side

Julian Brandt 7

Thundered an effort against the crossbar in an impressive came role. So unlucky not to score

Barcelona

Marc-André ter Stegen 9 (MOTM)

Made a brilliant stop to deny ex-teammate Marco Reus from the spot as well as numerous times from open play. One of the finest keepers in the world. Without him, Barcelona would have lost comfortably.

Nelson Semedo 4

Had a torrid night against Sancho and conceded a penalty by fouling the Englishman

Gerard Piqué 5

The experienced Spaniard was booked for a late lunge and didn't really look comfortable all night

Clément Lenglet 5.5

Wasn't much better than Pique, lacked authority and calmness in an intimidating atmosphere

Jordi Alba 5.5

Had to be withdrawn after an enterprising opening half-hour with a thigh injury

Arthur Melo 6.5

The busy Brazilian pulled the strings but drifted in and out of the game

Frenkie De Jong 7

Wasn't able to impose himself as much as he would have liked, but the Dutchman oozes class and his first touch allows him so much time on the ball

Sergio Busquets 6

Protected his defence well but a lack of pace made him vulnerable when Dortmund countered and he was substituted

Ansu Fati 5.5

Barcelona's youngest-ever Champions League starter couldn't impose himself on the game, outside of one blistering run which drew a foul and yellow card

Luis Suárez 6.5

Looked sharp, went close with a smart effort but lacked service

Antoine Griezmann 6

Worked hard down the left flank but didn't produce an attacking threat

Lionel Messi 5.5

Showed flashes of quality off the bench but couldn't break through. Needs game time to return to full fitness
