Unai Emery on why Nicolas Pepe took Arsenal penalty over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Nicolas Pepe took over the penalty duties in the 3-2 comeback win against Aston Villa with Arsenal manager Unai Emery revealing that Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang handed the spot-kick to the Ivorian.

After John McGinn opened the scoring, Pepe stepped up to take the penalty which he calmly converted to bag his first goal in Arsenal colors since his £72m move from Lille.

Aubameyang is Arsenal's designated penalty taker but passed the ball to the Ivorian with the Gabonese forward scoring a late free-kick to secure three points for the Gunners.

Speaking after the win over Villa, Emery was asked about Pepe taking the penalty ahead of Aubameyang, "Today it was a very big decision from Aubameyang to let [Pepe] shoot."

The win takes Arsenal back into fourth in the table, two points behind second-placed Manchester City but face a daunting task away to Manchester United in their next league game.
