Ulinzi Stars will miss the services of captain and goalkeeper James Saruni when they take on Sony Sugar FC in week four of Kenyan Premier League action.
The blow comes just days after the team fell to Mathare United in week three and as confirmed by Doctor John Imboywa, Saruni and midfielder Ibrahim Shambi will sit out of the tie.
According to Imboywa as quoted by the club’s website, Shambi who started the game against Mathare has a calcaneus spur on his left heel and is set to be out for a week with Saruni expected to be out for about a month with a chip fracture on his left ankle.
“Both players are under observation already; as for Shambi, he will not be out for long but Saruni will spend at least four weeks out,” Imboywa said.
There is some good news though on the injury front with defender Brian Birgen expected to resume training this week after being out for four weeks.
“Brian is finishing his therapy and has shown very good progress. Probably after one week, he will be back in training,” Imboywa opined.
Birgen’s return is a boost for the side as his replacement when he was out Cyril Nasiali is out with a calf muscle sprain and is still under observation.
Ulinzi confirmed too that left-back Omar Mbongi who is yet to feature for the club this season should make his debut in the Sony game.
