Liverpool are facing possible expulsion from this season's Carabao Cup for suspicion of fielding an ineligible player in their 2-0 win over League One outfit MK Dons.
According to The Athletic, the Football League are investigating the inclusion of Pedro Chirivella who did not have sufficient international clearance. The Spaniard joined Spanish side Extremadura on loan in January with his international clearance not being enough after completing his loan back to Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp fielded a number of young players in the clash with Paul Tisdale's side, including debutants Harvey Elliott, Sepp van den Berg, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Rhian Brewster.
A Liverpool spokesman spoke to The Athletic about the matter, "The club are aware of a potential administrative issue pertaining to one of our players. We are working with the relevant authorities in order to establish the facts of the matter and will be making no further comment until this process is complete."
An EFL spokesman also spoke about the issue, "We are currently considering the matter." Should Liverpool be found guilty they will either be handed a fine or kicked out of the competition.
