Everton 1-3 Man City: Citizens overpower Toffees at Goodison Park

Manchester City registered a 3-1 win over Everton in a Premier League clash staged at Goodison Park on Saturday 28th.

Gabriel Jesus gave City the lead before Dominic Calvert-Lewin grabbed the leveller for Everton nine minutes later. Raheem Sterling stretched the game far from Everton's reach as he scored the third goal to hand Pep Guardiola's men the three points. 

Injury concern

Inside three minutes Theo Walcott went down after he was hit by Raheem Sterling’s cross, full in the face. Medics attended to the former Arsenal man but he was forced to leave the on a stretcher and he was replaced by Alex Iwobi.

Jesus goal

City hit the front in the 24th minute and it was another word-class ball from Kevin De Bruyne that was headed in from Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian showed Pep Guardiola why he was right in selecting him as hie lost Seamus Coleman at the far post to head into the ground and past Pickford.  Jesus' strike was his 49th goal for the Citizens and fifth in five games against Everton. 

Leveler

Everton drew level 9 minutes later, Iwobi played a big role as he managed to squeeze his pass to Seamus  Coleman under pressure from Fernandinho. Coleman lifted the ball over Ederson from a tight angle with the ball having crossed the line before Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed into the net. 

Mahrez freekick 

Walker was advancing into Everton’s danger zone when he was brought down by Mina on the edge of the box and the referee called for a freekick. Mahrez stepped up to take it and his strike went in near Pickford’s hand, nestling in the far corner. 

Sterling goal

City grabbed their third through Raheem Sterling with five minutes remaining to stoppage time. It was a big goal for the England international whose his shot from Sergio Aguero's deflected shot was a yard over the line. Michael Oliver looked at his watch and awarded the goal. After his earlier miss, on the occasion of his 200th appearance for Manchester City, Sterling celebrating the 100th goal of his club career on his return to Merseyside.
