Edwin Van der Sar interested in Man United job

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is interested in returning to Old Trafford in the near future.

The former star is currently the CEO of Ajax Amsterdam but would be open to taking a front-office role at the Manchester club.

Van Der Sar has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the Director of Football post, which is still vacant at the club.

“Besides my family, my wife and kids and everything I have two loves in my life," Van der Sar told Planet Futbol.

“That’s Ajax, who gave me the opportunity to develop, they scouted me, they gave me the chance to shine in the world of football.

“And the last club of my career (Manchester United) also gave me a lot of attention, recognition, and everything developed at a later stage. And of course, I’d be interested in a position,"

“I need to learn a little more here [at Ajax], develop myself further and eventually let’s see what the future brings," Van der Sar added.

“United is a fantastic club, there’s a great following all over the world. Everybody wants to play for them and eventually, work for them,"

Van Der Sar joined Manchester United in 2005 and made a name for himself as he won three Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008 under Alex Furguson.

He retired at age 40 in 2011, returning to his former club as the CEO, where he has helped them become a force in European soccer.
