Ghana’s Sports State has informed the nation’s foreign-based players to fund their own flight fare ahead of November’s AFCON U23 tournament.
Though the ministry are yet to formally confirm the news, leading local news publication GhanaSoccerNet have exclusively reported the event.
“Ghana's preparations for the Africa U23 Championship has descended into chaos as foreign-based players have been ordered by the Sports Ministry to buy their own air tickets to enable join the national team,” wrote GhanaSoccerNet today.
The November tournament will feature the continent’s best eight U23 nations where the top three sides will progress to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“The Sports Ministry insiders say players have been asked to buy their own tickets to fly down due to unavailability of funds,” added the report.
The West Africans will be competing in Group A alongside hosts Egypt, Mali and Cameroon.
