AFC Leopards 0-0 Ulinzi Stars: Ingwe miss another chance to go top

AFC Leopards squandered another chance to go to the summit of the log after a barren draw against Ulinzi Stars in a Kenyan Premier League clash staged at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Leopards were looking to extend their unbeaten run to seven games after losing only once in their opening game of the season against Kakamega Homeboyz. Ulinzi Stars, on the other hand, were aiming to build up on their 1-0 win over Tusker last time out.

The game was off to a slow start with the first real opening coming in the 20th minute when Dennis Sikayi was invited to Ulinzi's final third with their defenders retreating as Sikayi opted to try his luck from distance with his long-range effort tipped over the bar by Timothy Odhiambo.

The second half was similar to the first with Ulinzi Stars waiting till the stoke of the hour mark to threaten the Leopards goalmouth when Dan Waweru delivered a corner that was headed towards goal but Benjamin Ochan was on hand to palm the ball out for another corner.

Leopards came close again nine minutes later when John Makwatta received the ball from Sikayi to produce a brilliant turn that completely put off John Kago before releasing a ferocious shot that was dealt with by Timothy Odhiambo.

Andre Cassa Mbungo's charges had another chance to steal all three points in the 93rd minute when Austin Ochieng threaded in a neat through ball to Boniface Mukhekhe who delivered a low ball across the face of goal but Whyvonne Isuza could not find the back of the net from five yards out as he skied his effort.

Leopards next take on Gor Mahia in the Mashemeji Derby slated for Sunday 10th November while Ulinzi Stars welcome Bandari at Afraha Stadium a day earlier.
