Senegal began their journey to the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier with a 2-0 win over Congo Republic on Wednesday night.
Senegal opened the scoring in the 25th through Sidy Sarr before Habib Diallo netted the second two minutes later. The win saw the Lions of Teranga go second in group I standings with three points, same as Guinea-Bissau who beat Eswatini 3-0.
Senegal took the lead in the 25th minute through Sidy Sarr beating Christoffer Mafoumbi from the near post. Congo Republic cleared the ball for a corner and Kreppin Diatta was the man to deliver. Diatta whipped in a wonderful corner and Cheikhou Kouyaté headed it back to more danger area and into the path of Sarr who scored from close range.
Two minutes later, the hosts extended their lead through Habib Diallo yet again from another corner. Congo failed to clear the corner and Sadio Mane had the ball on the left-wing. He delivered a searching cross into the box and Diallo rose high to head home.
Senegal will take on Eswatini in their second match of the competition on Sunday 17th.
