Gaborone United part ways with former AFC Leopards coach Nikola

Botswana Premier League side Gaborone United has parted ways with former AFC Leopards head coach Nikola Kavazovic.

In a statement on the club’s official social media accounts, Nikola parted ways with the club on Tuesday after citing personal reasons with Khalid Niyonzima installed on an interim basis.

The statement noted: “Gaborone United begin life without Serbian coach, Nikola Kavazovic tonight when they take on Extension Gunners under National Stadium floodlights in a BTC Premiership match. Kavazovic resigned yesterday citing personal reasons and it will be interesting to see how the players respond to his departure.”

Despite the setback, club director, Nicholas Zakhem said his team was ready for the match and were out to pick the three points in their Wednesday clash.

Ready for the clash

“I think we are ready for Gunners and we'll go out for maximum points. I call on our supporters to rally behind the team and the boys will deliver. This (Kavazovic departure) is not the first time it's happening this season, so the boys are not disturbed. You can see the spirits are high and I have no doubt that they'll go all out for a win."

Nikola isn’t new to such dramas as he left Leopards at the start of last season even before leading them in any competitive competition. He stated that he was off to see his ailing father back in his native Serbia only to sign for South Africa side Free States Stars.

Nikola who joined the team in September this year leaves Gaborone at position seven with 14 points in the league.
