AFC Leopards captain Soter Kayumba has joined Rwandese top-flight side Rayon Sports on a two-year contract the club has announced.
Kayumba joined Leopards in March 2019 from Sofapaka FC on a loan deal. After impressing for three months, the deal was made permanent by the club at the start of this season and he was handed the armband in the absence of defender Robinson Kamura who was nursing an injury.
Rumors had surfaced this week of a section of Leopards players wanting out due to unpaid dues with Kayumba being one of the players said to have handed in their transfer request. Others included Tresor Ndikumana and Vincent Abamahoro.
Kayumba has not featured for Leopards since their derby defeat at the hands of Gor Mahia a month ago. Kayumba arrived in the Kenyan Premier League in November 2018 where he was roped in by Sofapaka from Rwanda’s AS Kigali.
