Former AFC Leopards head coach Dennis Kitambi has been tasked with leading Tanzania giants Simba SC albeit on an interim basis.
Kitambi left Leopards in May 2018 for further studies but came back to Tanzania with Simba appointing him as an assistant to coach Patrick Wanard.
With the sacking of Wanard on Sunday after failing to guide the club to the CAF Champions’ League group stage, Simba said in a statement: “The Board of Directors of Simba Sports Company Limited has terminated the services of Mr. Patrick Wanard J. Aussems as its club’s head coach effective immediately.
“The Board has reached the decision to terminate the service of Mr. Aussems for failure to execute his duties to the satisfaction and standard agreed in the contract of employment, including but not limited to failure of the club to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League 2019/2020.
CAF Champions League
“Despite the efforts from the Board of Directors to support Patrick Wanard after the elimination from CAF Champions League. The former coach continued to operate in isolation without regard to the club’s ambitions and upward trajectory in terms of reforms, discipline, and conduct.”
The letter continued: “We appreciate what the former head coach has achieved for the club so far with regard to the domestic competitions with the support from the management and we feel it is now time for the club to challenge for continental honors.
“Lastly, the Board has appointed assistant coach Mr. Dennis Kitambi as the interim caretaker coach. The post of the head coach has now become vacancy and the club will make announcements as soon as the new Head Coach has been confirmed.”
