Jonathan Mensah pays homage to the coach that gave him an opportunity to play football

Ghana international Jonathan Mensah has paid homage to football coach David Duncan for discovering his talent and granting him the opportunity to prove himself.

Mensah further revealed that he will always be indebted to Duncan as he was the man who took a chance on him when everyone else didn't believe in his abilities as a player.

Speaking in an interview with Citi TV’s Face to Face program, the 29-year-old described the coach as a man who is very serious about football and a firm believer in the youth and revealed that he handed him a place in Ashanti Gold's senior team when he was 16-years-old.

Mensah who is currently plying his trade with Columbus Crew also expressed his gratitude to Duncan for motivating him to succeed in South Africa when he signed with Free State Stars.

“At the time I got to Ashgold, the Academy was being dissolved and coach Duncan took me straight into the first team because I was 16 and he signed me for my first professional contract.

“There is a special bond because I was a kid from nowhere and he took me under his wings. He saw something that no else saw and I grateful for that. He is such an incredible man, he took me as his son.”
