Unai Emery and Everton hold talks over managerial role

Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery has held talks with Everton FC over the vacant managerial post at the club.

Sky Sports reports indicate that the Merseyside has informally approached the former Sevilla man in London following the dismissal of former manager Marco Silva.

Despite the approach for Unai, Sky had reported on Monday that the current Shanghai SIPG manager Vitor Pereira is believed to be the current favourite with Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti among the candidate’s chairman Bill Kenwright and majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri’s are looking for.

Emery is believed to have a strong desire to improve his English and is said to be interested in coaching in England, Spain, or Italy.

Interim boss Duncan Ferguson led Everton to their first Premier League win in four games as the Toffees defeated Chelsea 3-1 at Goodison Park to get out of the relegation zone but a permanent manager is needed before January.

Everton is placed 14th with 17 points and has a tricky fixture coming up. They next face Manchester United at Old Trafford before coming up against Arsenal, Burnley, Newcastle and Manchester City in the festive period. A tie against Merseyside rivals Liverpool follow in the FA Cup.
