Champions League Roundup: Valencia shock Ajax as Conte's Inter Milan crashes out in intriguing night in Europe

Valencia served one of the biggest Champions League upsets of the night as they stunned last year's beaten semi-finalists Ajax 1-0 to qualify as Group winners ahead of Chelsea.

Ajax, playing at their fortress; Johan Cruijff ArenA, needed at least a draw to progress having started the night atop their group, but could not find an answer to Rodgrigo's 24th-minute strike.

They will now drop to the Europa League despite starting their continental campaign on a high, winning their opening two fixtures.

Elsewhere, Romelu Lukaku missed two clear chances that could have steered Inter Milan to the knockout stage, as they dropped out after losing 2-1 at home to Barcelona.

The Italians needed a win to progress, and for a minute seemed to be on their way to achieving the fete despite going down 1-0.

Lukaku pulled Inter level after Carles Perez had given the visitors the lead, but substitute Ansu Fati broke the hosts' heart with seven minutes to go with the winner.

Elsewhere, Chelsea booked a place in the last 16 with a 2-1 win over Lille at Stamford Bridge, while there was a similar win for Borussia Dortmund in Germany, who qualified as runners up behind Barcelona.

In group G, Lyon staged a late comeback to draw 2-2 against RB Leipzig to qualify in one of the closely contested groups.
