Orlando Pirates jumped into the Absa Premiership top four after defeating AmaZulu in Soweto this evening.
Coach Jozef Zinnbauer made forced changes with Mthokozisi Dube and Bulelani Ndengane replacing the suspended duo of Abel Mabaso as well as Ntsikelelo Nyauza.
The game’s first clear chance came on 18 minutes as Vincent Pule’s shot met a great save from Siyabonga Mbatha. AmaZulu followed with two opportunities but Bonginkosi Ntuli and Siyathemba Sithebe were denied by Wayne Sandilands respectively.
Pule, Luvuyo Memela, Thembinkosi Lorch and Fortune Makaringe all wasted wonderful chances before the game went into half-time goalless.
The second half came with a Pirates early goal. Lorch met a through ball down the right before delightfully delivering a 45 for Pule to expertly finish on 53 minutes.
Pirates continued to waste a couple more great opportunities with Lorch, Pule, Bongani Sam and Gabadinho Mhango - though Usuthu goalkeeper Mbatha was also hugely excellent.
Pirates eventually held on for the maximum three points and overtake Bidvest Wits to fourth position. Pirates next travel to Chippa United on 1 February.
