It might be hard to believe that a European competition was on during the 2019/2020 season without the use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), but at least now the Europa League will debut it on Thursday.
The first leg in the Round of 32 in the competition will kick off on Thursday with teams like Arsenal, Celtic, Man United, Rangers and Wolves in action.
The decision to bring in the VAR in the Europa League was made in September 2019, following the successful appearance of the equipment in the Champions League.
Some of Europe's top referees have been taking part in a winter course in Mallorca to go through VAR analysis and training, and we hope the problems and inconsistencies experienced in the Premier League and Serie A will not be seen here.
