Obi Mikel has been backed by former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye for his decision to quit Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor.
On Tuesday 17th, Trabzonspor terminated Mikel's contract by mutual consent after the former Chelsea man had called out on Turkish authorities for not suspending the league due to the spread of Covid-19. The midfielder's decision to quit was also supported by his wife Dyachenko as he described Mikel as a hero who prioritizes his family.
"I will do the same thing. I was shocked that the Turkish league was still on," he said.
"I only found out yesterday when I was going through the live score and saw there were games played in Turkey. I was shocked. Even the highest-paid players and biggest leagues in the world have all shut down."
"I called a friend who plays in Turkey and he told me the footballers union are trying to get the league postponed."
The 32-year-old made 19 league appearances for Trabzonspor before termination of his contract.
