Barcelona is now five points clear of Real Madrid in LaLiga standings, after a 2-0 win against Leganes at the Camp Nou.
The Catalans were far from their best tonight and they were quite fortunate not to be behind early on.
Teenager Ansu Fati opened the scoring three minutes from half-time with a composed finish after receiving the ball at the edge of the box.
For the goal, Fati latched on to a pass inside the penalty box and fired a perfect low strike that went inside the right post. A very clinical goal!— Futaa.com (@Futaacom) June 16, 2020
Messi then added a second from the penalty spot in the 69th minute after drawing a Jonathan Silva foul in the box, and the Argentine sent goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar the wrong way to move within a goal of 700 for club and country.
Barcelona is next in action on Friday when they visit third-placed Sevilla. Leganes, who sit bottom of the table with 23 points, will visit Mallorca the same day.
