Serie A side Roma are reportedly closing in on former Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertongen, according to Italian media.
Media reports indicate that Vertonghen is receptive to the idea of linking up with former Spurs director of football Franco Baldini, who is currently a consultant to Roma. He will also reunite with former Tottenham defender Federico Fazio, who was frequently in the lineup for Roma.
The 33-year-old Belgian will, however, accept a pay cut from what he earned at Spurs nearly £60k/wk) but that should probably be expected for a player at his age.
The Belgium international spent eight years with Spurs before being released this summer. Lazio and Inter Milan are also said to be interested and the 33-year-old admitted he knows which country he wants to move to.
